Chapter 12
Evadne shot Jason a look.
Jason got the hint and went to open the door.
“President Ashbourne! President Ashbourne!”
Keith, the Vice President who had messed up yesterday, barged in through the door. He was too quick for Jason to stop him.
Evadne frowned as Keith lunged towards her desk.
“Mr. Keith, why are you still here? Your resignation has been approved. You should be seeking new job opportunities.”
“President Ashbourne! You can’t treat me like this! I’ve been working at this hotel for nearly twenty years! I’ve given my all to this hotel, even to the point of getting sick. Chairman Emeric wouldn’t just fire me so casually, how can you just let me resign?” Keith protested loudly, his face red and his forehead sweaty.
“I’ve reviewed the files of all the hotel’s senior staff. You do have a disease, fatty liver and gallbladder polyps. Seems like you’ve made quite a bit of money from the hotel to get such diseases.” Evadne chuckled coldly, sending chills down the spine.
Keith, trembling with fear, caught the sarcasm in her words. “I had no idea that Vintage Elegance was selling us substandard bedding! They’ve been our partner for three years, their prices were reasonable, and they had a good reputation in Elmsworth, so I…”
Before he could finish, Evadne threw a file at Keith’s feet.
“These are all the transactions between the hotel and Vintage Elegance over the past three years. As the supervisor of the Finance Department, you didn’t notice anything wrong with these financial statements?”
Keith, frightened, picked up the file to examine it. The pages in his hand felt as hot as glowing coals!
“I also received an anonymous tip.”
Evadne picked up her coffee cup and took a leisurely sip, her eyes gleaming with a cold light. “Someone reported that your relationship with Vintage Elegance has been too close, suggesting you received hefty kickbacks, which is why you approved the purchase of their substandard bedding.”
Keith was so scared his teeth were chattering, and he could barely stand up.
“I don’t fire people without evidence. But if I do have evidence, I won’t let anyone off the
h ook. If Mr. Keith, you have any objections, we can settle this matter through legal channels.”
“President Ashbourne, I know I was wrong! I acted impulsively and made a wrong decision! Please… please spare me! If this gets out, I won’t be able to hold my head up in Elmsworth!”
Keith, pale with fear, pleaded with Evadne, almost getting down on his knees. “It was Vintage Elegance who approached me initially, offering me a money-making opportunity! All the ideas were from Mr. Ives. I thought all mattresses were of similar quality, so I didn’t think too much about it, and that’s how I got duped by him!”
Evadne laughed at this.

A vice president who’d been in the hotel industry for twenty years, trying to play dumb to protect himself.
“Alright, you know exactly what happened, Mr. Keith. You should go home and send out some more resumes. That’s more useful than talking to me here. Mr. Jason, please show him out.”
Keith, ashen-faced, was threw out by Jason like a dog with its tail between its legs.
Outside the office, Keith instantly changed his expression, spitting angrily.
*Just you wait! I won’t let this go!”
Although Evadne was tolerant, she was now full of resentment because of the corruption and incompetence in the hotel.
“Seems like Mr. Keith’s bad reputation in the hotel is well-known. As soon as you decided to deal with him, someone reported him!” Jason was eager for revenge, his face full of excitement.
“No one reported him.”
“What?! Were you… testing him?!”
“Yeah.”
Evadne responded nonchalantly, opening up a game to vent her frustration. “People should have a conscience. If they do bad things, they should be punished. They can’t even wait for their punishment, they confess as soon as I put a little pressure on them.”
Jason couldn’t help but applaud Evadne’s clever tactics. “Keith has been working with Vintage Elegance for three years and must have embezzled a lot of money. They should be dealt with seriously, and all the money they’ve taken should be returned!”
“We have to leave room for future face-to-face interactions. If I’m too harsh, I’m afraid the other senior staff in the hotel might resent me and

even stab me in the back. Also, Keith was promoted by my father, so I don’t want to hurt his pride too much.”
Evadne spoke lazily, chasing opponents in her game. “Keep a close eye on Keith in the coming days. If he contacts Acacia’s brother again, let me know immediately.”
“Yes, Miss!”
Just then, Evadne’s phone kept ringing, bombarded with messages from a chat group.
“Jason, I’m busy right now. Can you check who’s sending these messages?” Evadne was engrossed in her game.
Jason hurried over to check her phone. “Ah, it’s from a group called ‘Secrecy Bureau of Ashbourne’. Someone just sent you a message.”
The group was created by Evadne’s second older brother, Arnold. It included Evadne and her four biological brothers. The group name, Secrecy Bureau of Ashbourne, implied their agreement to keep Evadne and Thaddeus’ marriage a secret, not to be leaked out.
Evadne was startled and quickly grabbed her phone, forgetting about her game.
After all, Jason still has no clue that she’s been married and divorced, the less people know about it, the better. If this gets to her old man, it’s gonna be a big mess!
Arnold: “I can’t stand it! Is this Thaddeus tram pling on human decency? He’s way out of line!”
Bennett: “I’ll dig up some dirt on the Abernathy group, try to bankrupt them within a month.”
Elvis: “Give me a week, I’ll make Thaddeus pay.”
Cas sius: “Amen,”
Evadne: “What are you guys talking about, what happened?!”
A few seconds later, Arnold sends a web link.
Arnold: “Unfaithful Thaddeus has announced his wedding, not only that, there’s online gossip saying you’re the other woman, saying you forced your way into their relationship, causing them to split up!”
Elvis: “Ha, split up? Should I make them part forever?”
Cas sius: “Don’t let their evil deeds disturb your peace, don’t be jealous of their wrongdoings. Like gra** they’ll soon be cut down, and like green plants they’ll soon wither. Curb your anger, abandon your wrath; do not be disturbed, so as not to do evil.”
Amold: “Enough with your preaching, you’re even gonna convert the devil.”
Elvis: “In half an hour, I’ll delete all the news detrimental to you, including the trending topic about Thaddeus’ remarriage.
Evadne replied, “It’s okay, don’t worry about it, let everything happen as it should.”
