Chapter 24: The Confrontation

(Elena’s POV)

The word “child” flashed through my mind like lightning. Oliver Rivers‘ face immediately appeared in my thoughts.

I couldn’t think of any other reason that would make Marcus lose control like this. His accusation about

being ruthless toward a child could only mean one thing.

“I don’t understand what you mean,” I responded with cold mockery, my voice steady despite the burning

sensation on my cheek.

Marcus grabbed my wrist with brutal force. His fingers dug into my skin like iron clamps.

“Did you buy the cake?” he demanded, his grip tightening until pain shot up my arm.

I instinctively tried to pull away, my nose tip reddening from the strain. “I bought it at Sophia’s request. What’s

wrong with that?”

Marcus yanked me closer until we were inches apart. His golden eyes blazed with fury that made my blood

run cold.

“Oliver is allergic to chocolate,” he revealed, his voice low and dangerous. “That cake nearly killed him.”

The words hit me like a physical blow. My expression became dazed as the implications sank in.

“Sophia never told me about any allergy,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Marcus’s face twisted with disbelief. “You’re lying. Sophia is his mother – she would certainly know about his

allergies and must have informed you.”

His accusation cut deeper than any physical wound. The certainty in his voice showed he had already decided I was guilty.
